Again, I hope you are all safe, and free from COVID. This little germ has taken a strong foothold
in our lives and won’t go away. I pray that you are well and in good spirits.
As you are probably aware, we had a good show considering all the hoops we had to go through. The Autumn Open Show was held on September 19th and 20th at the Community Center with restrictions. If you entered work, you got a taste of it, but with our volunteers, it went rather smoothly. To facilitate an Autumn Open Show for all to enjoy we took the show online. It was our first virtual exhibit with 170 entries. You can access all the art by going online to our website. The City of Cypress also put the show on its website. The awards given were valued at over $2,000.00 with the pieces judged by Jack King. There was a total of 42 prizes and 18 Honorable Mentions awarded.
The “Sylvia Lippe Award” (Best of Show), sponsored by the Event News was won by John Foxfor his piece, “Tall Ship Sunset”. We want to thank our numerous sponsors of Special Awards given, Walter Bowman Realty, The Frame Maker, OC Breeze, The Roethel Family Trust, Tim Keenan’s Creative Media, The Whitney Team Realtors, Art Supply Warehouse, Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, Leon Picture Framing and Charlie Salmo’s Diamond International Center.
Now for the bad news: We have been advised that we cannot have a General meeting in November and January may not happen either.
This is an election year. Per our Bylaws the slate of Officers must be presented to the membership for approval along with a review of the Bylaws in November. We called a meeting of the Board. The Officers are willing to continue for another term and there were no suggested changes to the Bylaws. If you have an objection to the Officers being re-elected and the Bylaws reviewed without change, you need to contact us with your reasons. Otherwise we can conclude that you accept the decision.
Officers are: Pat Edep, President
Irene Williams, 1 st Vice President
Mary McGlasson, 2 nd Vice President
Bob Meyer, 3 rd Vice President
John Fox, 4 th Vice President
Wendy Hultquist, Secretary
Hedi Roethel, Treasurer
We cannot have the Installation of Officers without a January meeting so we will have to wing it. If you want to serve on the Board, we need to know that as well. I can be reached at 714-527-7601.
On a sad note, John Brent, our Web Master and cameraman, along with Sandy Moore are leaving us for the East Coast. Their only granddaughter just turned one and grandpa and grandma want to see her grow up. So goodbye California and hello Pennsylvania. We will sorely miss them. But on a happier note, Sandy Laube has agreed to take on the role of Web Master and is already looking at ways for us to stay competitive in these unusual times.
