Have you had enough rain? I hear more is coming, but by staying inside out of the drops you should have time to create a few pieces for our Spring show. I am working on some new art and I hope you'll also submit some pieces. Your invitations should be in the mail soon. The Autumn show had a little less than 200 pieces - let's see if we can beat that in April. Take-in will be on Saturday April 27 from 9 - 1. Our judge will be Michiel Daniel. Anyone can submit; no need to be a member, but members get a break on entry fees. Members pay $9 per entry with the 5th entry free. Non-members pay $15 per entry with the 5th entry free. This is a great deal considering the prizes we offer. The Spring Show and Awards Ceremony will take place on Sunday April 28. The art will be open to the public at noon. Awards will be given at 4pm. Winning entries will remain on display in the Gallery until May 14. Non-winners will take their pieces hoe following the awards ceremony. PLEASE do not remove the non-winners beforehand so the public does not see a half-empty room.

Our next General Meeting will be on March 17. Our Oil Demonstrator is Janine Salzman. This should be quite entertaining. Besides our regular raffle, we will also have silent auctions on some great hard-bound books and related art items, which helps support our scholarship fund. Check out these treasures.

The Pencil Painting Society will take-in artwork at the community center on March 2 and hold a reception March 9. If you work a minimum of 75% pencil, they invite you to submit entries. The judge for this show is Robert Mackie. Check with Ruth Arthur on the particulars (562-425-1609) The exhibits will be displayed until April 15. Application forms will be available at the March meeting. Betty Holster will lead a pencil painting workshop on March 16.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend out meetings held at the Cypress Cmomunity Center, 5700 Orange Avenue, Cypress. We start the meetings at 2:00 PM and usually conclude between 4:00 and 5:00 PM.

Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone is having a creative and successful 2019!

A little housekeeping is in order as we kick off a new season ... we've been working hard to update our membership database, making sure that everyone on our mailing list is a current member.

As much as we'd like to continue mailing to everyone in our original list , our organization also needs to spend its resources wisely. Regretfully, those who may have forgotten to pay their membership dues over the past year will be dropped from our database after this month.

We have so many exciting presenters scheduled for 2018, our two juried shows, having the opportunity to connect with fellow artists in our community-- we know you wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun! So, please take a moment and fill out the membership form (see our flier or click here). Mail it in with your dues or bring it with you to the next meeting, and you won't miss a thing! After all, your support and participation is what make the Cypress Art League such a vibrant, strong organization.

We look forward to seeing you in 2019.

Hedi Roethel, Membership Chair

the Cypress Art League

The Cypress Art League is a non-profit organization located in Cypress, California. It was incorporated in 1969 to promote understanding and enjoyment of the arts among the citizens of the communities represented. Members include artists of all mediums, photographers, and patrons of the arts.

Meetings are held at regular intervals as announced on this website. Nationally acclaimed artists lecture and demonstrate their art during these meetings. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join in the many events sponsored throughout the year.

Members bring examples of their art for judging at the general meetings and the winning entries are displayed on this website.

Open juried art shows are held twice a year during community art events. Prize money is awarded in numerous categories and artists are acknowledged at a public awards presentation.

The Art League currently supports and assists the city in scheduling and exhibiting art in the Cypress Community Center Art Gallery. These shows feature local artists' work, and are available to the public, free of charge.

All-inclusive tours of local museums and cultural events are offered throughout the year. It is our aim to provide first-class service at affordable prices. See our TOURS page on this website for currently planned tours.

Plein-Air painting excursions to local coastal areas, nature parks, and scenic vistas are scheduled six times a year. Member artists are always on-site and available to offer advice, critique others' work, and have a good time in general.

To encourage the study of the arts, scholarships are awarded to deserving students enrolled full-time in fine arts and photography at the Cypress Community College. Also, many member artists assist local primary and secondary schools with their art programs.
