Another summer has come and gone. Hope all are managing to stay cool and keep up your art.

The Autumn Open Show is fast approaching. I know we will have another wonderful exhibit, as we always have. Still looking for the magic hurtle of 200 entries. You should already have your invitation. If you missed it or are not on the mailing list, let us know so you can be added. You should always be proud of yourselves for the work you do. I have received many comments about the outstanding artists we have.

The Cypress Art League Autumn show is open to the public. You do not have to be a member of the club in order to enter art work, but it helps with fees; $15.00/ea. non-members vs. $9.00/ea for members. Your fifth entry is free. just bring your work in the day of our take-in, we will have forms available at the center located at the Cypress Community Center, 5700 Orange Avenue in Cypress, CA (between Valley View and Walker streets). However, it saves you time to have the paperwork already filled out. Remember that paintings and photography must have wire hangers to be eligible and cannot be over 48" horizontally or vertically due to the limited space in the gallery.

Take-in for the Autumn Show will be on September 16, 2017 from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm We want you to be able to show your work as much as you do. Winning entries will be on display fora month, through October 16, 2017. Our judge is Joseph Stoddard from Pasadena, who works in multimedia.

The awards range in various Divisions including painting, other media, photography, 3-dimensional and digital art. Special prizes awarded are the Sylvia Lippe Best of Show award sponsored by the Event Newspaper, Walter Bowman Judge's award, Frame Maker Award for custom framing and Art Supply Warehouse first, second and third place awards. We also have Diamond International donating a necklace. We will also have additional awards.

The Show will be open to the public from noon to 4:00 pm on September 17 and our General meeting will start at 2:00 pm. Winning entries will be announced and prizes given at the General meeting at 4:00 p.m. Our demonstrator at this meeting is Fealing Lin, who works in watercolor.Because of the open show, we will not have popular vote competitions at this one meeting. However, we will continue to have raffle items with chance tickets and silent auction items, hard bound art books and other art related material. Shirley Bloom, widow of Julian Bloom, will be donating some supplies from Julian for our silent auctions, primarily for watercolor.

Our summer workshops included Robin Cole Smith who gave a wonderful session in charcoal techniques.

Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone is having a creative and successful 2017!

A little housekeeping is in order as we kick off a new season ... we've been working hard to update our membership database, making sure that everyone on our mailing list is a current member.

As much as we'd like to continue mailing to everyone in our original list , our organization also needs to spend its resources wisely. Regretfully, those who may have forgotten to pay their membership dues over the past year will be dropped from our database after this month.

We have so many exciting presenters scheduled for 2017, our two juried shows, having the opportunity to connect with fellow artists in our community-- we know you wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun! So, please take a moment and fill out the membership form (see our flier or click here). Mail it in with your dues or bring it with you to the next meeting, and you won't miss a thing! After all, your support and participation is what make the Cypress Art League such a vibrant, strong organization.

We look forward to seeing you in 2017.

Hedi Roethel, Membership Chair

the Cypress Art League

The Cypress Art League is a non-profit organization located in Cypress, California. It was incorporated in 1969 to promote understanding and enjoyment of the arts among the citizens of the communities represented. Members include artists of all mediums, photographers, and patrons of the arts.

Meetings are held at regular intervals as announced on this website. Nationally acclaimed artists lecture and demonstrate their art during these meetings. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join in the many events sponsored throughout the year.

Members bring examples of their art for judging at the general meetings and the winning entries are displayed on this website.

Open juried art shows are held twice a year during community art events. Prize money is awarded in numerous categories and artists are acknowledged at a public awards presentation.

The Art League currently supports and assists the city in scheduling and exhibiting art in the Cypress Community Center Art Gallery. These shows feature local artists' work, and are available to the public, free of charge.

All-inclusive tours of local museums and cultural events are offered throughout the year. It is our aim to provide first-class service at affordable prices. See our TOURS page on this website for currently planned tours.

Plein-Air painting excursions to local coastal areas, nature parks, and scenic vistas are scheduled six times a year. Member artists are always on-site and available to offer advice, critique others' work, and have a good time in general.

To encourage the study of the arts, scholarships are awarded to deserving students enrolled full-time in fine arts and photography at the Cypress Community College. Also, many member artists assist local primary and secondary schools with their art programs.
