PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE ~~ Sept 2013

The Cypress Art League Autumn Open Show is coming up soon. Summer has flown by and I hope you had time to create new material for the exhibit. As always, we are looking forward to a fantastic show. You should have your invitation or should receive it in the mail shortly. If you missed it or are not on the mailing list, let us know so you can be added.

You do not have to be a member of the club in order to enter art work, but it helps on saving fees; $14.00/ea. non-members vs. $8.00/ea for members. Your fourth entry will be free ~ bring your work in for entry forms we will have available at the take-in stations located at the Cypress Community Center, 5700 Orange Avenue in Cypress, CA (between Valley View and Walker streets).

Take-in for the Autumn Show will be on September 21, 2013 from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm to accommodate those artists who cannot get to the center before then. We want you to participate. Winning entries will be on display for a month, through October 16, 2013. Our judge will be Marciano Martinez, an emeritus art teacher from Fullerton College. Our awards range in Divisions including painting, other media, photography, 3-dimensional and digital art. Special prizes encompass the Sylvia Lippe Best of Show award sponsored by the Event Newspaper, Frame Maker Award for custom framing, Art Supply Warehouse first, second and third place, Tile Zone award, et al.

Winning entries will be announced and prizes given at the General meeting on September 22, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. The Gallery will be open to the public from noon to 4:00 p.m. and our General meeting will start at 2:00 p.m. Our demonstrator at this meeting is Lisa Martins doing water color illustration. Due to the open show, we do not have popular vote competitions during the meeting. However, we will continue to have nice raffle items for chance tickets.

During the summer we had great workshops; one in June with Tom Fong, and an oil painting workshop with Darcy Copeland in July.

We have positions open with the Art League. Let us know if you are willing to serve on the Board or take on a task. These responsibilities allow you free membership for each year you serve.

Your President, Pat Edep

MESSAGE from the MEMBERSHIP Chair

Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone is having a creative and successful 2013!

A little housekeeping is in order as we kick off a new season ... we've been working hard to update our membership database, making sure that everyone on our mailing list is a current member.

As much as we'd like to continue mailing to everyone in our original list , our organization also needs to spend its resources wisely. Regretfully, those who may have forgotten to pay their membership dues over the past year will be dropped from our database after this month.

We have so many exciting presenters scheduled for 2013, our two juried shows, having the opportunity to connect with fellow artists in our community-- we know you wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun! So, please take a moment and fill out the membership form (see our flier or click here). Mail it in with your dues or bring it with you to the next meeting, and you won't miss a thing! After all, your support and participation is what make the Cypress Art League such a vibrant, strong organization.

We look forward to seeing you in 2013.

Hedi Roethel, Membership Chair

the Cypress Art League

The Cypress Art League is a non-profit organization located in Cypress, California. It was incorporated in 1969 to promote understanding and enjoyment of the arts among the citizens of the communities represented. Members include artists of all mediums, photographers, and patrons of the arts.

Meetings are held at regular intervals as announced on this website. Nationally acclaimed artists lecture and demonstrate their art during these meetings. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join in the many events sponsored throughout the year.

Members bring examples of their art for judging at the general meetings and the winning entries are displayed on this website.

Open juried art shows are held twice a year during community art events. Prize money is awarded in numerous categories and artists are acknowledged at a public awards presentation.

The Art League currently supports and assists the city in scheduling and exhibiting art in the Cypress Community Center Art Gallery. These shows feature local artists' work, and are available to the public, free of charge.

All-inclusive tours of local museums and cultural events are offered throughout the year. It is our aim to provide first-class service at affordable prices. See our TOURS page on this website for currently planned tours.

Plein-Air painting excursions to local coastal areas, nature parks, and scenic vistas are scheduled six times a year. Member artists are always on-site and available to offer advice, critique others' work, and have a good time in general.

To encourage the study of the arts, scholarships are awarded to deserving students enrolled full-time in fine arts and photography at the Cypress Community College. Also, many member artists assist local primary and secondary schools with their art programs.
