The Cypress Art League open show was held April 23rd at the Community Center. Once again, we had a wonderfi,l exhibit with 164 pieces. I hope you had the opportunity to participate and enjoy the art. I want to thank all the people who volunteered to help with our take in. Our judge was Robin Cole Smith, a teacher at Laguna College ofArt & Design. Winners will be on exhibit until the week of May 15th. Although there were fewer pieces than we had in the past, it was still very impressive. The Best of Show Award went to Cesar Devera.. The Mayor's Award was given to Bob Meyer and the Frame Maker Award went to Jean McAlister. Special awards included Art Supply Warehouse gift certificates, jewelry from Diamond Intemational Center, two $ 100.00 awards from John Barcellona Flute, a $50.00 award from The Whitney Team Realty Co and certificates from Leon Picture Framing.

The May 21st meeting demonstrator is Bill Robles, courtroom illustrator, who is quite famous, working on high profile cases such as the O.J. Simpson trial. We have had him in the past and it is fascinating how he picks a person from the audience to replicate their image. We will also be awarding the student scholarships. The winners bring examples of their work.

Although it is over the Memorial Day Weekend, we will have another Paint Party workshop on May 27th and a summer workshop with Robin Cole Smith using charcoal on July 17th. Sign up at the General Meeting or call me for information.

Remember, when we meet again, it will be time for the Autumn Show so keep working on your creative projects. I am hoping we get our numbers up again for the next show. .

For those who have not paid their dues that you need to send your money in to help to keep the organization going.

There is a possible conflict with the Lakewood Art Guild Open Show, which scheduled its awards at the same time as our meeting on May 21st. Their awards will be given at 3:00p. Tony Podue has arranged that the building remain open until 7:00 p. so the art can be picked up afier our meeting. This should allow us to participate in both functions to some degree.

Hope to see you at the meeting on Sunday May 21st at 2:00pm

Your President

Pat Edep

Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone is having a creative and successful 2016!

A little housekeeping is in order as we kick off a new season ... we've been working hard to update our membership database, making sure that everyone on our mailing list is a current member.

As much as we'd like to continue mailing to everyone in our original list , our organization also needs to spend its resources wisely. Regretfully, those who may have forgotten to pay their membership dues over the past year will be dropped from our database after this month.

We have so many exciting presenters scheduled for 2016, our two juried shows, having the opportunity to connect with fellow artists in our community-- we know you wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun! So, please take a moment and fill out the membership form (see our flier or click here). Mail it in with your dues or bring it with you to the next meeting, and you won't miss a thing! After all, your support and participation is what make the Cypress Art League such a vibrant, strong organization.

We look forward to seeing you in 2016.

Hedi Roethel, Membership Chair

the Cypress Art League

The Cypress Art League is a non-profit organization located in Cypress, California. It was incorporated in 1969 to promote understanding and enjoyment of the arts among the citizens of the communities represented. Members include artists of all mediums, photographers, and patrons of the arts.

Meetings are held at regular intervals as announced on this website. Nationally acclaimed artists lecture and demonstrate their art during these meetings. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join in the many events sponsored throughout the year.

Members bring examples of their art for judging at the general meetings and the winning entries are displayed on this website.

Open juried art shows are held twice a year during community art events. Prize money is awarded in numerous categories and artists are acknowledged at a public awards presentation.

The Art League currently supports and assists the city in scheduling and exhibiting art in the Cypress Community Center Art Gallery. These shows feature local artists' work, and are available to the public, free of charge.

All-inclusive tours of local museums and cultural events are offered throughout the year. It is our aim to provide first-class service at affordable prices. See our TOURS page on this website for currently planned tours.

Plein-Air painting excursions to local coastal areas, nature parks, and scenic vistas are scheduled six times a year. Member artists are always on-site and available to offer advice, critique others' work, and have a good time in general.

To encourage the study of the arts, scholarships are awarded to deserving students enrolled full-time in fine arts and photography at the Cypress Community College. Also, many member artists assist local primary and secondary schools with their art programs.
