PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE ~~ Jan 2010

Well shut my mouth and call me toothless - January is here again. I hope you all celebrated the holiday season the best way you could in this economic downturn, and that 2010 will be a stellar year for us all. Let's all hope that it is a better year than 2009.

It sounds like Jack King will be sending us all on a really wild ride down the rabbit hole into Never-Never Land at the meeting on January 17th. I was told that he will be relating a love story. Only the plot will thicken dramatically with the characters being a handsome prince, a beautiful maiden, a monk, an artist, andlast but not least a vampire. For the life of me I cannot figure this one out, but it sounds quite intriguing. Come join us to see how the magic unfolds in Jack's most eloquent way. I believe Jack King has been gracing us with these journeys into the psyches of artists' pasts for sixteen years now, and each one has been an unforgetable experience.

As you may recall from the last meeting, Sandy Taylor is finalizing plans for a trip to the Gene Autry Museam in February. She will be able to give you the final details at the meeting. There is a minimum amount of confirmations she must have in order to determine the rate. We usually need at least 25 sign-ups in order to break even and give the group a reasonable cost - around $400 - maybe less with more participants. We always have so much fun on these trips - well worth the price. This venture will be on a Saturday near the end of the month, either the 20th or 27th. We will take a tour bus to LA so you don't have to worry about traffic, see a 1-time travelling art exhibit, have lunch, take in the sights, and return home before 5 PM. If you are interested, please contact Sandy Taylor at 562-799-0778 or at the January meeting. Any thoughts or additional ideas are always appreciated.

As we seem to perpetually have vacancies on the Board, we ask that you might step forward to help the club. If you have any free time, please consider volunteering in the Art League. Let any of the Board members know if this is a possibility for you. When you server on the Board, you get a free year's membership.

Your President,

Pat Edep

MESSAGE from the MEMBERSHIP Chair

Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone is having a creative and successful 2009!

A little housekeeping is in order as we kick off a new season ... we've been working hard to update our membership database, making sure that everyone on our mailing list is a current member.

As much as we'd like to continue mailing to everyone in our original list , our organization also needs to spend its resources wisely. Regretfully, those who may have forgotten to pay their membership dues over the past year will be dropped from our database after this month.

We have so many exciting presenters scheduled for 2009, our two juried shows, having the opportunity to connect with fellow artists in our community-- we know you wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun! So, please take a moment and fill out the membership form (see our flier or click the link up there). Mail it in with your dues or bring it with you to the next meeting, and you won't miss a thing! After all, your support and participation is what make the Cypress Art League such a vibrant, strong organization.

We look forward to seeing you in 2009. Warmest Wishes!

the Cypress Art League

The Cypress Art League is a non-profit organization located in Cypress, California. It was incorporated in 1969 to promote understanding and enjoyment of the arts among the citizens of the communities represented. Members include artists of all mediums, photographers, and patrons of the arts.

Meetings are held at regular intervals as announced on this website. Nationally acclaimed artists lecture and demonstrate their art during these meetings. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join in the many events sponsored throughout the year.

Members bring examples of their art for judging at the general meetings and the winning entries are displayed on this website.

Open juried art shows are held twice a year during community art events. Prize money is awarded in numerous categories and artists are acknowledged at a public awards presentation.

The Art League currently supports and assists the city in scheduling and exhibiting art in the Cypress Community Center Art Gallery. These shows feature local artists' work, and are available to the public, free of charge.

All-inclusive tours of local museums and cultural events are offered throughout the year. It is our aim to provide first-class service at affordable prices. See our TOURS page on this website for currently planned tours.

Plein-Air painting excursions to local coastal areas, nature parks, and scenic vistas are scheduled six times a year. Member artists are always on-site and available to offer advice, critique others' work, and have a good time in general.

To encourage the study of the arts, scholarships are awarded to deserving students enrolled full-time in fine arts and photography at the Cypress Community College. Also, many member artists assist local primary and secondary schools with their art programs.
