We had another stellar Autumn Show with 232 pieces entered. I cannot brag enough about the quality of pieces submitted: a contender with any professional exhibit around. All of our judges have commented about the difficulty in picking winners. To me you are all winners. I thank you for keeping this group a viable force in the community. The winners were on display to the week of October 16th.

As of October 30th, we have a new exhibit on display. Julian Bloom passed away in June and left a large hole in our hearts. Julian was our President Emeritus. His widow, Shirley, allowed us to display 33 of his works, with some available for purchase. This exhibit will be on display until the first week in January. On November 12th we will have a reception at the Community Center from noon to 5:00 p.m. Please set aside some time tojoin us during that time to see this exhibit. It is stunning.

We had a Paint Party Workshop on October 21. Good attendance and it gave me another opportunity to work on a next show entry. It was a fun day.

Our next meeting is on November 19th starting at 2:00 pm at the Cypress Community Center, 5700 Orange Ave. Please join us to see Tom Brown at work on his fascinating oil technique. We have raffle items and silent auctions for art related items, which will aid the scholarship fund. You do not need to be a member in order to attend our meetings, benefit from the demonstrations or to take a chance on prizes.

After years of performing the duties of Recording Secretary, Jackie Dvorman decided it was time to rest a bit. I want to thank her for her many years of service, noting she will continue as Ra.ffle Chair. Wendy Hultquist has agreed to try to fill Jackie's shoes. Please give Wendy your support. Positions are still available. Please consider working with the Board. Those who are on the Board get free year's membership while they serve.

In 2018, we have the following workshops confirmed: February 3 with Darcey Copeland (Oil), May 5 with Fealing Lin (W/C) and March 17 Pencil Painting with Nicole Caufield. Our first 2018 General Meeting will be January 14 with Jack King. We hope to see you there at the Community Center.

Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone is having a creative and successful 2017!

A little housekeeping is in order as we kick off a new season ... we've been working hard to update our membership database, making sure that everyone on our mailing list is a current member.

As much as we'd like to continue mailing to everyone in our original list , our organization also needs to spend its resources wisely. Regretfully, those who may have forgotten to pay their membership dues over the past year will be dropped from our database after this month.

We have so many exciting presenters scheduled for 2017, our two juried shows, having the opportunity to connect with fellow artists in our community-- we know you wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun! So, please take a moment and fill out the membership form (see our flier or click here). Mail it in with your dues or bring it with you to the next meeting, and you won't miss a thing! After all, your support and participation is what make the Cypress Art League such a vibrant, strong organization.

We look forward to seeing you in 2017.

Hedi Roethel, Membership Chair

the Cypress Art League

The Cypress Art League is a non-profit organization located in Cypress, California. It was incorporated in 1969 to promote understanding and enjoyment of the arts among the citizens of the communities represented. Members include artists of all mediums, photographers, and patrons of the arts.

Meetings are held at regular intervals as announced on this website. Nationally acclaimed artists lecture and demonstrate their art during these meetings. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join in the many events sponsored throughout the year.

Members bring examples of their art for judging at the general meetings and the winning entries are displayed on this website.

Open juried art shows are held twice a year during community art events. Prize money is awarded in numerous categories and artists are acknowledged at a public awards presentation.

The Art League currently supports and assists the city in scheduling and exhibiting art in the Cypress Community Center Art Gallery. These shows feature local artists' work, and are available to the public, free of charge.

All-inclusive tours of local museums and cultural events are offered throughout the year. It is our aim to provide first-class service at affordable prices. See our TOURS page on this website for currently planned tours.

Plein-Air painting excursions to local coastal areas, nature parks, and scenic vistas are scheduled six times a year. Member artists are always on-site and available to offer advice, critique others' work, and have a good time in general.

To encourage the study of the arts, scholarships are awarded to deserving students enrolled full-time in fine arts and photography at the Cypress Community College. Also, many member artists assist local primary and secondary schools with their art programs.
