PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE ~~ SEP 2018

Summer was hotter than ever this year. Hope you managed to stay cool. I am sorry to announce the cancellation of Art On The Green in September due to lack of participation.

I know you are preparing for the Fall Show. You should have an invitation - if not find the link to SHOWS on this page. Also, forms will be available at the take-in at the Community Center. You don't have to be a member of the club, but it helps withe the entry fees - $15 for non-members vs $9 for members + 5th entry free. Remember that paintings and photos behind glass must have wire hangers. Take-in will be on September 15 from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. Winning entries will be displayed for a month, thru October 15. Our judge is Jim Salchak, a renowned artist from the area. Awards will be given for painting, other media, photography, 3-dimensional, and digital art. Special prizes include the Sylvia Lippe Best of Show Award, Walter Bowman Judge's Award, FrameMaker Award, and Art Supply Warehouse 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place Awards. We also have a Diamond International donation and an OC Breeze special $175 award for best depiction of Orange County. The show will be open to the public from noon to 4:00 pm on September 16.

Our general meeting will start at 2:00 pm. Winning entries will be announced and prizes given at 4:00 pm. Our demonstrator at this meeting will be Joseph Stoddard. We do not have popular vote competitions at the September meeting, but we will have raffle items and silent auctions items.

There will be a Long Beach Open Studio Tour on October 13-14, 20-21, 27-28 from noon to 5pm each day. Wendy Hultquist, our secretary, will display on the 1st weekend. The locations, dates, times, and artist info can be found on the website www.LBopenstudiotour.com.

This year is the election of officers and review of our bylaws. If you are interested in supporting us with your time, please let us know since we have positions available. You get free membership for each year you serve, and your help contributes to keeping the club functioning.

Your President

MESSAGE from the MEMBERSHIP Chair

Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone is having a creative and successful 2018!

A little housekeeping is in order as we kick off a new season ... we've been working hard to update our membership database, making sure that everyone on our mailing list is a current member.

As much as we'd like to continue mailing to everyone in our original list , our organization also needs to spend its resources wisely. Regretfully, those who may have forgotten to pay their membership dues over the past year will be dropped from our database after this month.

We have so many exciting presenters scheduled for 2018, our two juried shows, having the opportunity to connect with fellow artists in our community-- we know you wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun! So, please take a moment and fill out the membership form (see our flier or click here). Mail it in with your dues or bring it with you to the next meeting, and you won't miss a thing! After all, your support and participation is what make the Cypress Art League such a vibrant, strong organization.

We look forward to seeing you in 2018.

Hedi Roethel, Membership Chair

the Cypress Art League

The Cypress Art League is a non-profit organization located in Cypress, California. It was incorporated in 1969 to promote understanding and enjoyment of the arts among the citizens of the communities represented. Members include artists of all mediums, photographers, and patrons of the arts.

Meetings are held at regular intervals as announced on this website. Nationally acclaimed artists lecture and demonstrate their art during these meetings. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join in the many events sponsored throughout the year.

Members bring examples of their art for judging at the general meetings and the winning entries are displayed on this website.

Open juried art shows are held twice a year during community art events. Prize money is awarded in numerous categories and artists are acknowledged at a public awards presentation.

The Art League currently supports and assists the city in scheduling and exhibiting art in the Cypress Community Center Art Gallery. These shows feature local artists' work, and are available to the public, free of charge.

All-inclusive tours of local museums and cultural events are offered throughout the year. It is our aim to provide first-class service at affordable prices. See our TOURS page on this website for currently planned tours.

Plein-Air painting excursions to local coastal areas, nature parks, and scenic vistas are scheduled six times a year. Member artists are always on-site and available to offer advice, critique others' work, and have a good time in general.

To encourage the study of the arts, scholarships are awarded to deserving students enrolled full-time in fine arts and photography at the Cypress Community College. Also, many member artists assist local primary and secondary schools with their art programs.
