Well, another year has gone by. I don't remember most of it. Still think it is hiding somewhere in a closet. When I open a door, it will pop out at me. They say when you get older, the years go by faster. I can attest to that. I am now at light speed.

Hope the coming year will be a great one for you and yours. Take care and don't forget to attend our demonstrations, shows and workshops whenever you can. We look forward to seeing you.

This is also the time that dues are payable for the year. Remember that your contributions goes into supporting our philanthropic efforts to bring art to the community and encouragement to budding artists from our scholarships.

There were a few changes to the Board during year; Debbie Barcellona is now our Gallery Chair and we are hoping to have the Gallery open more often to let the public see our exhibits. We currently have an exhibit of Julian Bloom on display. If you haven't had a chance to see it, please stop by before it goes away very soon. And, Wendy Hultquist has taken the role of Recording Secretary, replacing Jackie Dvorman who resigned that position, but has agreed to stay on as Raffle Chair. Thank you Jackie for your many years of service to us. I want to thank Carrol Wolf for taking the spot of 1st. VP and to Irene Williams who is now our Treasurer's Assistant as well as the Face Book Manager. We are keeping them busy with tasks.

Now for my broken record: We still have slots to be filled on the Board and we are asking for volunteers. Members of the Board, get a free year's membership for each year served. Please consider giving some time to the club.

We are also planning the second Annual Art On The Green event. Application forms will be available at the meeting on January 14, 2018. The date for this event has been set at September 9 and should be the place to be on that Sunday afternoon. Join me in committing to that venue. We already have 11 artists who have confirmed and as last year, I expect a great day with art crafts, food, and libations. The Cypress Council has approved funds in support of this function.

Jack King, will be with us once again taking us on another historical journey on January 14th.. Not sure of the topic, but I am sure it will be exciting. For those who have not had the opportunity to listen to Jack before, this meeting is a must.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend our meetings held at the Cypress Community Center, 5700 Orange Avenue, Cypress. We start the meetings at 2:00 pm and usually conclude around 4:00 pm.

Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone is having a creative and successful 2018!

A little housekeeping is in order as we kick off a new season ... we've been working hard to update our membership database, making sure that everyone on our mailing list is a current member.

As much as we'd like to continue mailing to everyone in our original list , our organization also needs to spend its resources wisely. Regretfully, those who may have forgotten to pay their membership dues over the past year will be dropped from our database after this month.

We have so many exciting presenters scheduled for 2018, our two juried shows, having the opportunity to connect with fellow artists in our community-- we know you wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun! So, please take a moment and fill out the membership form (see our flier or click here). Mail it in with your dues or bring it with you to the next meeting, and you won't miss a thing! After all, your support and participation is what make the Cypress Art League such a vibrant, strong organization.

We look forward to seeing you in 2018.

Hedi Roethel, Membership Chair

the Cypress Art League

The Cypress Art League is a non-profit organization located in Cypress, California. It was incorporated in 1969 to promote understanding and enjoyment of the arts among the citizens of the communities represented. Members include artists of all mediums, photographers, and patrons of the arts.

Meetings are held at regular intervals as announced on this website. Nationally acclaimed artists lecture and demonstrate their art during these meetings. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join in the many events sponsored throughout the year.

Members bring examples of their art for judging at the general meetings and the winning entries are displayed on this website.

Open juried art shows are held twice a year during community art events. Prize money is awarded in numerous categories and artists are acknowledged at a public awards presentation.

The Art League currently supports and assists the city in scheduling and exhibiting art in the Cypress Community Center Art Gallery. These shows feature local artists' work, and are available to the public, free of charge.

All-inclusive tours of local museums and cultural events are offered throughout the year. It is our aim to provide first-class service at affordable prices. See our TOURS page on this website for currently planned tours.

Plein-Air painting excursions to local coastal areas, nature parks, and scenic vistas are scheduled six times a year. Member artists are always on-site and available to offer advice, critique others' work, and have a good time in general.

To encourage the study of the arts, scholarships are awarded to deserving students enrolled full-time in fine arts and photography at the Cypress Community College. Also, many member artists assist local primary and secondary schools with their art programs.
