PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE ~~ May 2010

I hope you had the opportunity to see the Open Show. Ladd Terry was our judge. I don’t know how these judges can make their selections from so many wonderful pieces of art. We had fewer pieces than in the past. But the quality was as good as I have ever seen it. If I had my way, every one of them would have a ribbon. Of course, I am not the judge. You can stop by the Community Center Monday thru Friday to view the prize winners in the Gallery through May 14th. The exhibit will be changing the week of May 17th.

Make sure you set aside time on your calendar for our next show on September 12th. Take In will be on September 11, 2010 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

This is the time of year when we award the student scholarships for art and photography. Those winners are to bring examples of their work to the May meeting. You will be able to see first-hand where our scholarship funds are going as we continue to support young emerging artists.

Chuck Lundy of The Frame Maker provided a $250.00 gift certificate this year on custom framing. Thanks, Chuck, it was most appreciated.

This will be the last meeting before the summer break. Our demonstrator is Roger Folk. His water color style is awe inspiring. We will have 3 workshops during the summer. Tom Fong, Tom Brown and a “Free For All” Session. Check out the flyers and/or contact Bob Meyer for enrollment.

The Event Newspaper has offered to host a Wine & Cheese Party in the summer. We will display our art throughout the building and they will invite public and clientele. No date is set as yet so I will need to know who all are interested so we can estimate how many pieces they can accommodate from each artist. I will then be able to contact you when arrangements are finalized. There will be a sign-up at the meeting.

I am again asking for help from the members. We have positions open on the Board. Think about it. You get a free year’s membership for serving. Let any of the Board members know if you can take some time to be a part of our team.

Your President,

Pat Edep

MESSAGE from the MEMBERSHIP Chair

Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone is having a creative and successful 2009!

A little housekeeping is in order as we kick off a new season ... we've been working hard to update our membership database, making sure that everyone on our mailing list is a current member.

As much as we'd like to continue mailing to everyone in our original list , our organization also needs to spend its resources wisely. Regretfully, those who may have forgotten to pay their membership dues over the past year will be dropped from our database after this month.

We have so many exciting presenters scheduled for 2009, our two juried shows, having the opportunity to connect with fellow artists in our community-- we know you wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun! So, please take a moment and fill out the membership form (see our flier or click the link up there). Mail it in with your dues or bring it with you to the next meeting, and you won't miss a thing! After all, your support and participation is what make the Cypress Art League such a vibrant, strong organization.

We look forward to seeing you in 2009. Warmest Wishes!

the Cypress Art League

The Cypress Art League is a non-profit organization located in Cypress, California. It was incorporated in 1969 to promote understanding and enjoyment of the arts among the citizens of the communities represented. Members include artists of all mediums, photographers, and patrons of the arts.

Meetings are held at regular intervals as announced on this website. Nationally acclaimed artists lecture and demonstrate their art during these meetings. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join in the many events sponsored throughout the year.

Members bring examples of their art for judging at the general meetings and the winning entries are displayed on this website.

Open juried art shows are held twice a year during community art events. Prize money is awarded in numerous categories and artists are acknowledged at a public awards presentation.

The Art League currently supports and assists the city in scheduling and exhibiting art in the Cypress Community Center Art Gallery. These shows feature local artists' work, and are available to the public, free of charge.

All-inclusive tours of local museums and cultural events are offered throughout the year. It is our aim to provide first-class service at affordable prices. See our TOURS page on this website for currently planned tours.

Plein-Air painting excursions to local coastal areas, nature parks, and scenic vistas are scheduled six times a year. Member artists are always on-site and available to offer advice, critique others' work, and have a good time in general.

To encourage the study of the arts, scholarships are awarded to deserving students enrolled full-time in fine arts and photography at the Cypress Community College. Also, many member artists assist local primary and secondary schools with their art programs.
